A leader who advances digital transformation in the mortgage industry

Sam is a veteran in the digital product space. His career is marked by a commitment to innovation and strategic leadership across the mortgage life cycle, including origination, underwriting, secondary markets, servicing, and securitization.

Most recently, Sam served as vice president, business technology officer at Freddie Mac, where he led efforts for the single-family acquisitions division. His leadership was pivotal in driving mortgage innovations at the organization, where he managed a diverse team of product managers, project managers, engineers, developers, and solution designers. During this time, Sam also worked closely with the Single Family Innovation Lab, which conducted groundbreaking business and technical experiments that set new industry standards.

Before this position, Sam was the vice president of single-family product delivery. During his tenure in this role, Sam and his teams brought to life the strategic vision for Freddie Mac’s Reimagine Servicing® program, an initiative that significantly minimized credit losses, slashed operational costs, and transformed client experiences. Sam also served on the boards of directors at Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems (MERS) and Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization (MISMO).

"Collaboration and customer-centric innovation have always been at the core of my approach. Understanding customer needs, applying design principles, and delivering tangible value are the keystones of a successful digital product organization,"

Advisor, Argyle

Between 2011 and 2023, Sam served as co-chair for the Uniform Mortgage Data Program® (UMDP®), a joint effort between Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, undertaken at the direction of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) to enhance mortgage data quality through standardization.

Previously, Sam also led the single-family major project execution department, where he led the creation of the Freddie Mac Loan Advisor®—a suite of innovative tools that saved time and money for lenders and borrowers alike in the origination process. In recognition of his leadership role with this project, Sam was named an MBA Technology All-Star in 2017.

In his early years at Freddie Mac, Sam's roles evolved from an investor inquiry representative to significant positions like strategies and products director and project management director.  He built and led teams across various functions in each role, including marketing, business policy, operations, technology, and finance.
